Data resource profile: Norwegian Databases for Drug Utilization and Pharmacoepidemiology

In this article we aim to give researchers and other users of drug utilization data a current overview the twonationwide Norwegian databases located at Institute Public Health (NIPH), withreference some historical background. The first database, “The Drug Wholesales Statistics”,dating back 1974, provides total sale figures all medicines on market. second “TheNorwegian Prescription Database” (NorPD), dates 2004 covers prescription drugs dispensed bypharmacies. This database will be modernized during 2021 renamed (“The Prescribed DrugRegistry”, name not finally decided), migrated registry. thefuture, most valuable add-on individual level fromin-patients in hospitals health care institutions, possibility obtain aggregated from eachinstitution. Together, two nationwide continue cornerstones Norway should used more extensively improve best for individuals society. Development national e-health programs play key role providing easier less time-consuming access conditions linkage registries near future.
